Coin Metrics — 2023

Coin Metrics

In-house design at a Series B crypto data startup — charts, data visualization, and a marketing site replatformed to WP Engine and Elementor Pro with AAA accessibility. The product designs are under NDA; the full story is a conversation.

The Coin Metrics marketing site: “Crypto intelligence for the future of finance,” with the live asset ticker running the frame and the data-thread visual carrying the brand’s “Put truth to work” line.

Coin Metrics organizes the world’s crypto data for institutions that need it to be trustworthy — and communicating that data was my job. As one of three designers in-house at the Series B startup, I worked across the charts product, the data visualization language, and the marketing website, wearing whatever hat the week required and coordinating with stakeholders across the company.

The product design work is covered by an NDA and isn’t published here. A curated set of designs is cleared for showing in a live, non-recorded video call — reach out and I’ll walk you through it.

The problem

Crypto data is only valuable if people can read it. Coin Metrics sells truth in a market full of noise, which put real weight on design: charts that institutions could trust at a glance, a visualization language that made dense network data legible, and a public site that could carry the credibility of the product behind it.

That public site was the drag. It ran on an aging WordPress stack built with Avada — slow to work in, hard to keep accessible, and out of step with the security posture a company selling to financial institutions is expected to hold. And all of it had to move forward at startup speed, with three designers serving stakeholders across product, marketing, and leadership.

What I did

On the product side, I designed for the charts and the data visualization language that runs through them — the part of the company where “make it transparent and accessible” stops being a tagline and becomes typography, color, hierarchy, and motion applied to unforgiving quantitative data. That work is what the NDA covers, and what I walk through on live calls.

On the public side, I worked on the marketing site through a full replatform: off the old Avada build, onto WP Engine hosting with WordPress and Elementor Pro. The rebuild raised the bar the old stack couldn’t reach — AAA accessibility across the site and alignment with the SOC 2 security standards Coin Metrics’ institutional customers expect from every part of the company, including its front door.

What changed

Coin Metrics came out of the re-platform with a faster, AAA-accessible marketing site on infrastructure that matched its security commitments, and a design practice that kept charts, visualization, and brand speaking one language. The product work stays behind the NDA — but it’s available as a conversation, over a live, non-recorded call.
